William Laing m 1808

The birth 1768 and death 1834 dates are mere speculation taken from the death of William Laing, buried in St Hilda, Durham, England. What is known is he married Eleanor Maugham, a native of the parish of St Helens, West Auckland, Durham in 1808. Their first child, Jane, was born in Rushyford in 1809. William's occupation is recorded as drayman. Their second child, William, was born in Etherly in 1811. William's occupation is recorded as malt-man. He is my 2g grandfather and his latter life is well known. It is not clear what happened after William's birth. It is believed they moved north to Whitburn where Elizabeth was born in 1813 and then to Cleadon where Margaret was born in 1815, Ellen in 1820 and Isabella in 1825. William's occupation is recorded as labourer in all these cases except Isabella where he is a husbandman (shepherd). What happened after 1815. William's father Joseph died in Stockton-on-Tees.
